The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 And disbelieveth in goodness; 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Now I have warned you of a Fire that flames, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
