Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim! 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Rather they are in doubt, playing. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 (Then they will say): Our Lord relieve us of the torment. Lo! we are believers. 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 Then (his Lord commanded): Take away My slaves by night. Lo! ye will be followed, 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 And crops and noble sites 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
