The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
