The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No! They are going to know. 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
