He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and in awe of God 9 From him you are distracted. 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
