The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WOE UNTO THOSE who give short measure: 1 Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. 2 And when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 on a fateful Day. 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 No indeed; the Book of the libertines is in Sijjin; 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 It is a written book. 9 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 And none gives the lie to it but every exceeder of limits, sinful one 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 They will never have faith. In fact, their hearts are stained from their deeds. 14 No indeed, on that Day they shall be veiled from their Lord. 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 The record is a sealed text. 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 (reclining) upon couches they will gaze, 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed, 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 A spring from which those near [to Allah] drink. 28 Verily! (During the worldly life) those who committed crimes used to laugh at those who believed. 29 and whenever they pass by them, they wink at one another [derisively]; 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 And when they saw them, they said: "They have indeed gone astray." 32 (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them. 33 so today those who believe shall [be able to] laugh at those who denied the truth 34 On high couches, gazing. 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
