The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And (the mystic ties of) parent and child;- 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And did We not guide him to the two elevated things? 10 Yet he has not scaled the height. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
