The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read! In the name of your Lord, who created: 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you considered if he were on the right way, 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
