The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 and said, "He wants to expel you from your land." They asked (others), " what is your opinion in the matter? 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh and asked, "Shall we have a reward, if we should prevail?" 113 Pharaoh replied, "Certainly, and you shall also become my courtiers." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 'Throw' he replied. And when they threw, they bewitched the people's eyes and terrified them, and produced great sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was proved and their works were disproved. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 saying, "We declare our belief in the Lord of the Universe, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.' 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not resent us except because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and let us die as Muslims [in submission to You]." 126
