The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 I ask no recompense of you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 127 Do you build on every height a monument? Vain is it that you do: 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And orchards and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And so they gave him the lie: and thereupon We destroyed them. In this [story,] behold, there is a message [unto men,] even though most of them will not believe [in it]. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
