Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
HaMeem 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 Whereon every wise command is made clear 4 at a behest from Ourselves: for, verily, We have always been sending [Our messages of guidance] 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no Allah save Him. He quickeneth and giveth death; your Lord and Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And certainly We tried before them the people of Firon, and there came to them a noble apostle, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night you will be pursued.” 23 "And leave the sea as a furrow (divided): for they are a host (destined) to be drowned." 24 How many gardens did they leave behind, and how many fountains 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
