He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We made corn grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
