Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 (Since wealth does not necessarily guarantee everlasting happiness) then why do you not show kindness to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
