The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the wizards came to Pharaoh, saying: Surely there will be a reward for us if we are victors. 113 He said, “Yes, and you will then become close to me.” 114 So they said: "O Moses, you may cast your spell first, or we shall cast ours." 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 We said to Moses: "Throw down your staff;" and it swallowed up their conjurations in no time. 117 ۞ So the truth came to pass, and false was proved what they were doing. 118 Thus they were overcome and made to look abject. 119 and the magicians flung themselves prostrate, 120 They said: "We believe in the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Pharaoh said, "You dare believe in Him before I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have devised in this city in order to drive its people out. But you shall soon know the consequences, 123 "Be sure I will cut off your hands and your feet on apposite sides, and I will cause you all to die on the cross." 124 They said: "Verily, we are returning to our Lord. 125 "The only reason you have to hate us is that we believed in the signs of our Lord as they came to us. O our Lord, give us sufficient endurance that we may die submitting (to You)." 126
