۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hell! 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 'But what is the matter with you that you cannot help one another?,'" 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 And some of them inclined towards others, mutually questioning. 27 (The followers will say to their leaders): “You used to come to us from the right hand.” 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 Now the Word of our Lord hath been fulfilled concerning us. Lo! we are about to taste (the doom). 31 We led you astray as we were ourselves astray." 32 Then lo! this day they (both) are sharers in the doom. 33 That is how We deal with sinners. 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 “And you will not be compensated except for your deeds.” 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white and delicious to those who drink it, 46 There shall be no trouble in it, nor shall they be exhausted therewith. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 Who said: What! are you indeed of those who accept (the truth)? 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 Then he will say, "Shall we look for him?" 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 But for my Lord's blessing, I were one of the arraigned. 57 Are we then not to die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 This will indeed be great happiness. 60 For the like of this let the workers work. 61 So is this welcome better, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell; 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 Before them a multitude of people of olden times had erred, 71 And indeed We sent among them warners (Messengers); 72 and behold what happened in the end to those that had been warned [to no avail]! 73 Save single-minded slaves of Allah. 74
