The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed they will come to know soon; 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 The heavens will have openings like doors. 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except scalding water and [foul] purulence - 25 A fitting recompense (for them). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 But all things We have enumerated in writing. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
