He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
