The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 and by the creation of the male and the female. 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Then as for him who gives away and guards (against evil), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects the best, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But save him who fears 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
