Aaron had told them before, "My people, you are deceived by the calf. Your Lord is the Beneficent God. Follow me and obey my orders". 90 [But] they answered: "By no means shall we cease to worship it until Moses comes back to us!" 91 He (Moses) said: O Aaron! What held thee back when thou didst see them gone astray, 92 from [abandoning them and] following me? Hast thou, then, [deliberately] disobeyed my commandment?" 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 Moses said, "What was the matter with you, Samiri?" 95 He answered: "I saw what the people did not see. So I took a handful of dust from the trail of the Messenger, and I flung it (into the fire). Thus did my mind prompt me." 96 (Moses) said: "Get thee gone! but thy (punishment) in this life will be that thou wilt say, 'touch me not'; and moreover (for a future penalty) thou hast a promise that will not fail: Now look at thy god, of whom thou hast become a devoted worshipper: We will certainly (melt) it in a blazing fire and scatter it broadcast in the sea!" 97 But the god of you all is the One Allah: there is no god but He: all things He comprehends in His knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it will bear a heavy burden on the Day of Judgement, 100 therein abiding forever; how evil upon the Day of Resurrection that burden for them! 101 The Day when the Horn shall be blown. On that Day, We shall assemble all the sinners with blued eyes, 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We know well what they will say when the most upright among them will say: "You did not tarry more than a day." 104
