The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will now call the guards! 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
Almighty God's Truth.
