And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 And if you obey a mortal like yourselves, then most surely you will be losers: 34 What, does he promise you that when you are dead, and become dust and bones, you shall be brought forth? 35 ۞ How far, how far, is that which you are promised. 36 There exists only our present life: we die and we live [but once], and shall never be raised up again. 37 He is only a man who invents lies against God, so have no faith in him". 38 [Whereupon the prophet] would say: "O my Sustainer! Succour me against their accusation of lying!" 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 And the Cry seized them in justice and We made them withered. So begone with the harmdoing nation. 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it. 43 Then We sent Our messengers in succession. Every time there came to a nation its messenger, they denied him, so We made them follow one another [to destruction], and We made them narrations. So away with a people who do not believe. 44 Then We sent Musa (Moses) and his brother Harun (Aaron), with Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and manifest authority, 45 to the Pharaoh and his nobles. But they behaved proudly and thought themselves superior people. 46 and they said, 'What, shall we believe two mortals like ourselves, whose people are our servants?' 47 Thus, they gave the lie to those two, and earned (thereby) their place among the doomed: 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign and gave them shelter on a peaceful hillside watered by a fresh spring. 50
