The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
