Resurrection (Al-Qeyaamah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ I swear by the Day of Resurrection. 1 And I swear by the self-reproaching soul. 2 Do men think that We shall never be able to assemble their bones? 3 Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers! 4 Yet man is sceptical of what is right before him. 5 'When will the Day of Resurrection be' he asks, 6 At length, when the sight is dazed, 7 The moon eclipsed, 8 And the sun and moon will be joined together (by going one into the other or folded up or deprived of their light, etc.) 9 on that Day will man say: “Whither the refuge?” 10 No, there shall be no (place of) refuge. 11 on that Day, to your Lord alone is the recourse. 12 On that Day, man will be told of all that he has sent before and what he has left behind. 13 Nay! Man will be a witness against himself [as his body parts (skin, hands, legs, etc.) will speak about his deeds]. 14 even though he might make up excuses. 15 (Muhammad), do not move your tongue too quickly to recite the Quran. 16 Surely its collection and recitation are Our responsibility. 17 But when We have promulgated it, follow thou its recital (as promulgated): 18 Then indeed, to explain its details to you is upon Us. 19 Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now 20 And leave alone the Hereafter. 21 Countenances on that Day shall be resplendent, 22 gazing towards their Lord. 23 And some faces, that Day, will be Basirah (dark, gloomy, frowning, and sad), 24 thou mightest think the Calamity has been wreaked on them. 25 Nay; when a man's soul reaches up to the throat, 26 and when it is asked: "Could any magician save him now?"; 27 And he will realise that this is the parting. 28 And leg will be joined with another leg (shrouded) 29 To your Lord then will be the driving. 30
