The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 and a few from later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water everflowing. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
