This, (Quran), is certainly the revelation from the Lord of the Universe. 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 If We had sent it down on a barbarian 198 And he had read it unto them, even then they would not have been believers therein. 199 Thus it passes through the hearts of the criminals. 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 It shall come unto them on a sudden, and they shall not perceive. 202 they say: "Can we be granted some respite?" 203 What! do they still seek to hasten on Our punishment? 204 What do you see? If We gave them enjoyment for years, 205 And then the promise that is given to them, does come upon them- 206 of what avail will be the provisions of life which they have been granted to enjoy? 207 Never have We destroyed a habitation till We had sent admonishers to them 208 as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down. 210 They are not worthy of it, nor have they power. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 (Muhammad), do not worship anything besides God lest you suffer the punishment. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 who can see whether you stand up 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 Surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom the devils descend? 221 They descend on every lying sinner, 222 Who listens to you (for spreading rumours); but most of them are liars. 223 As for poets, the erring follow them. 224 hast thou not seen how they wander in every valley 225 And they speak what they do not do? 226 Except those who believed and did good deeds, and profusely remembered Allah, and took revenge after they had been wronged*; and soon the unjust will come to know upon which side they will be overturned**. (* The Muslim poets who praise Allah and the Prophet. ** The disbelievers will be punished.) 227
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Poets (Alshu'araa'). Sent down in Mecca after The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah) before The Ant (Al-Naml)
