He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
