Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the Night when it passeth away;- 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me." 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 Serene soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Join My worshipers and 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
