The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 but for him that is a miser, and sufficed, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 and what will his wealth avail him when he goes down [to his grave]? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 and from which the most godfearing shall be removed, 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
