These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the seeds you till? 63 Is it you that cause it to grow, or are We the causers of growth? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
