He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attended to him, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
