Indeed this is a revelation from the Lord of the Universe; 192 The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 (a revelation embodied) in the scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not evidence enough for them that the learned among the Children of Israel have recognized this [as true]? 197 And if we had revealed it to any of the foreigners 198 And he had read it unto them, they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so, We have caused it to enter into the hearts of harmdoers: 200 who will not believe in it, until they see the painful chastisement 201 It shall come to them of a sudden, while they perceive it not; 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Do they really want Our chastisement to be expedited? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 and then the chastisement of which they were being warned were to come upon them, 206 what will it then avail them, the enjoyment of days they were given? 207 We never destroyed any town without first sending to them warning and guidance. 208 By way of reminder, and We have never been unjust. 209 It was not the satans who brought it down: 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 verily, [even] from hearing it are they utterly debarred! 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 And warn your tribe (O Muhammad SAW) of near kindred. 214 And be kind to him who follows you of the believers. 215 If they disobey you, tell them, "I condemn your disobedient deeds". 216 Have trust in the Majestic and All-merciful God, 217 Who watches you when you get up, 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 Lo! He, only He, is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 Should I tell you to whom the satans come? 221 They descend on every guilty impostor. 222 The devils convey upon them what they heard, but most of them are liars. 223 And as to the poets, those who go astray follow them. 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 and how they say that which they do not? 226 The righteously striving believers among them who remember God very often and use their talent to seek help after they have been wronged are the exceptional. The unjust will soon know how terrible their end will be. 227
