He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
