And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 they said, "Are we to follow a man from amongst ourselves? We would surely then fall into error and madness. 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 (We told Salih), "Tomorrow they will know who is the most arrogant liar. 26 Verily, We are sending the she-camel as a test for them. So watch them [O Salih (Saleh)], and be patient! 27 “And inform them that the water is to be shared between them; only those may come whose turn it is.” 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 We sent upon them a single blast of sound and they were left like hay to be used by the cattle. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 A favor from Us; thus do We reward him who gives thanks. 35 He had warned them of Our might, but they passed over the warnings. 36 Then they even solicited his guests from him, whereupon We blotted out their eyes, (telling them): “Now have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings.” 37 Early on the morrow an abiding Punishment seized them: 38 So have a taste of My chastisement and My warnings. 39 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 40
