The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
