The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 who, when people measure for them, take full measure, 2 But when they measure out to others or weigh out for them, they are deficient. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 NAY, VERILY, the record of the wicked is indeed [set down] in a mode inescapable! 7 And what do you know, how (wretched) the Sijjeen is! 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense. 11 No one rejects it except the sinful transgressors 12 who, when listening to Our revelations, say, "These are only ancient legends". 13 By no means! but on their hearts is the stain of the (ill) which they do! 14 Nay! Surely, they (evil-doers) will be veiled from seeing their Lord that Day. 15 Then indeed, they will [enter and] burn in Hellfire. 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 However, the records of the deeds of the virtuous ones will certainly be in Illiyin. 18 and what will make you understand what the 'Illiyyin is? -- 19 A record [indelibly] inscribed, 20 Witnessed by those who are honoured. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On couches face to face. 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 Their thirst will be slaked with Pure Wine sealed: 25 which have the fragrance of musk. This is the kind of place for which one should really aspire. 26 With the wine is a drink from Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And when they returned to their people, they would return jesting. 31 And when they saw them, they would say, "Indeed, those are truly lost." 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 So this day it is the believers who laugh at the disbelievers. 34 [for, resting in paradise] on couches, they will look on [and say to themselves]: 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
