Mary (Maryam)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf, Ha, Ya, 'Ayn, Sad. 1 [This is] a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 "Lord, my bones have weakened and my head has turned hoary with age, but never, Lord, have I been disappointed in my prayer to you: 4 And now I fear my kinsfolk after I am gone; and my wife is barren. So give me, from Thee, a kinsman 5 to be my heir and to be the heir [of the blessings] of the House of Jacob; and make him, O my Lord, acceptable to you." 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a son, when my wife is barren, and I have reached the extreme old age." 8 Allah said: even so! Thy Lord saith: it is unto Me easy, whereas surely I created thee afore when thou wast not aught. 9 He said: My Lord! give me a sign. He said: Your sign is that you will not be able to speak to the people three nights while in sound health. 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 [Allah] said, "O John, take the Scripture with determination." And We gave him judgement [while yet] a boy 12 and We also endowed him with tenderness and purity, and he was exceedingly pious 13 And dutiful to his parents, and he was not insolent, disobedient. 14 'Peace be upon him, the day he was born, and the day he dies, and the day he is raised up alive!' 15
