The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
