The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
WOE TO THOSE who give short measure, 1 those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share; 2 but when they measure or weigh for others, they reduce! 3 Do they not think they will be raised (to life) again 4 on a fateful Day. 5 The Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? 6 Nay! most surely the record of the wicked is in the Sijjin. 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 (It is) a marked Book. 9 Woe on that Day unto the beliers 10 who belied the Day of Recompense! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 And when Our revelations are rehearsed unto him, he saith: fables of the ancients! 13 No! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 But, the record of the righteous is [preserved] in the 'Illiyyin -- 18 And what can make you know what is 'illiyyun? 19 A written record, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Behold, [in the life to come] the truly virtuous will indeed be in bliss: 22 On couches face to face. 23 You will recognise the freshness of serenity on their faces. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 And admixture thereof will be Water of Tasnim: 27 A spring, from (the waters) whereof drink those Nearest to Allah. 28 Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers: 29 And whenever they passed by them, used to wink one to another (in mockery); 30 and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting, 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 But they were not Sent to be guardians over them! 33 But on the Day [of Judgment,] they who had attained to faith will [be able to] laugh at the [erstwhile] deniers of the truth: 34 as they (recline) upon their couches and gaze (around them). 35 Have the disbelievers [not] been rewarded [this Day] for what they used to do? 36
