The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 and thou art a lodger in this land; 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) Freeing a neck (slave, etc.) 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphaned relative 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
