The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: O Moses! Either throw (first) or let us be the first throwers? 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Thus there and then they were vanquished and overthrown, humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 They said, 'We believe in the Lord of all Being, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron' 122 Pharaoh said: Ye believe in Him before I give you leave! Lo! this is the plot that ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive its people hence. But ye shall come to know! 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
