The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
