Al-Alaq
The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood). 2 Proclaim! And thy Lord is Most Bountiful,- 3 who, by the pen, taught the human being: 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
