The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord glorify 3 purify your garments; 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
