Thamood, belied their Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 so fear God and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 "In gardens and springs. 147 farms, and palm-trees in thick groves, 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 "And follow not the command of Al-Musrifun [i.e. their chiefs, leaders who were polytheists, criminals and sinners], 151 and spread mischief in the land rather than set things right." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said, “This is the she-camel – one day shall be her turn to drink, and on the other appointed day, shall be your turn.” 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 Then they hamstrung her; and then they became regretful. 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
