The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Of might, he (Gabriel) stood firm 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 his eyes did not swerve, nor did they stray 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
