Observedest thou him who turned away? 33 Gives a little, then hardens (his heart)? 34 Does he possess the knowledge of the Unseen, and therefore he sees? 35 Has he not been made acquainted with what was written in the scriptures of Moses? 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 To wit, that a burthened soul shall not bear the burthen of another. 38 and that man shall have only that for which he strives; 39 and that (the result of) his striving shall soon be seen, 40 Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete; 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 and that it is He alone who causes [you] to laugh and to weep; 43 And that it is He who causes death and gives life 44 And that He created pairs, the male and the female 45 of a sperm-drop, when it was cast forth, 46 And that He hath ordained the second bringing forth; 47 and that it is He alone who frees from want and causes to possess; 48 It is He who is the Lord of Sirius. 49 And that He did destroy the Ad of old 50 Thamud, 51 And the people of Noah before. Indeed, it was they who were [even] more unjust and oppressing. 52 And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 So O listener! Which favour of your Lord will you doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh: 57 none except Allah can disclose it. 58 Do you then marvel at this discourse, 59 and do you laugh, and do you not weep, 60 indulging in carelessly idle games? 61 [Nay,] but prostrate yourselves before God, and worship [Him alone]! ۩ 62
