In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
