The Thamud belied the sent ones 141 Recall when their brother Salih said to them: "Have you no fear?" 142 "I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 For this I demand no recompense from you; my reward is only with the Lord of the Universe. 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 And you hew houses out of the mountains exultingly; 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who cause corruption in the land and do not amend." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 Thou art but a human being like unto us. So bring thou a sign if thou art of the truth-tellers. 154 He said, "This is a she-camel. She will have her share of water as you have your share, each on a certain day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the retribution came on them. Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
