The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 We created the human in fatigue. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 (He boasts and shows off) saying, "I have spent a great deal of money (for the cause of God)". 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Did We not assign unto him two eyes 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 The freeing of a slave! 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
