The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount 1 And the Book written 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 none can avert that. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28

(1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. (3) وقف جائز مع تساوي أولوية الوقف والوصل، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال النصف للنصف. (4) وقف جائز مع الوصل أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلث. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
